Supply Chain Planning & Analytics Consulting

The Australian sector context for Tridant's expanding supply chain practice. Vendor landscape, demand drivers, and where the centre of gravity is shifting in 2026.

◉ Sector Overview

A planning market that has finally moved past the spreadsheet.

For most of the last decade, Australian and APAC supply chain planning sat in a hybrid state: enterprise ERPs at the source, vendor planning tools partially deployed, and the actual planning work still living in Excel models maintained by individual planners. The COVID demand shocks, the 2022–2023 input-cost crises, and the 2025 tariff regime each exposed the same weakness — when conditions move quickly, spreadsheet-anchored planning cannot move with them.

2026 is the year that gap is being closed by procurement budget rather than goodwill. Enterprise customers across mining, FMCG, manufacturing, retail and aftermarket services are moving onto purpose-built planning platforms — Anaplan for connected planning, Kinaxis for concurrent supply chain orchestration, Syncron for aftermarket service-parts planning, SAP IBP for SAP-anchored shops, and o9 / Blue Yonder for the larger global enterprises.

The Australian consulting market that delivers these implementations is concentrated. Tridant, KPMG, Deloitte, Accenture, Bourne, and a small number of vendor-specific specialists make up most of the senior-practitioner capacity in country. Demand for hands-on consultants who can both gather business requirements and configure the platform exceeds supply.

◉ Trends Shaping 2026

Where the practice is pointed.

Spreadsheet retirement is finally a board-level mandate.
CFO and COO pressure following the 2025 tariff regime has converted "we should move off Excel" into "we have approved budget to move off Excel." This is the volume driver behind Tridant's supply chain practice expansion. Consultants who have actually run an enterprise planning process from inside Excel — and know why the spreadsheet survived as long as it did — bring credibility to that conversation.
AI-augmented forecasting moving from feature to expectation.
All major planning vendors (Anaplan PlanIQ, Kinaxis Maestro AI, Syncron AI/ML, o9 Knowledge Graph, SAP IBP AI/ML) have shipped AI forecasting modules. Customers expect them lit up at go-live. The skill gap is no longer "can you use the AI feature" — it is "can you make the AI output trustworthy enough that the planner stops overriding it." That is a configuration, governance, and explanation problem, not a model problem.
Aftermarket / service-parts planning is the fastest-growing niche.
Syncron's December 2025 VAR expansion (Tridant added for ANZ) targets manufacturers and distributors with installed-base service obligations — long-tail SKUs, multi-echelon networks, criticality-driven stocking rules. This sub-segment sits underneath the main demand/supply planning footprint and is meaningfully underserved across APAC.
Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is replacing S&OP as the language.
S&OP — sales and operations planning — is being absorbed into the broader IBP frame that includes financial planning, workforce planning, capital planning, and ESG / sustainability reporting. Tridant's positioning across both finance (Anaplan, Workday, BlackLine) and supply chain (Anaplan, Kinaxis, Syncron) gives the firm an unusually strong IBP delivery story.
Mid-market is the underserved volume.
The Big 4 firms chase top-of-market deals. Mid-market — businesses with operational complexity but without enterprise procurement layers — is where boutique-to-mid specialist firms like Tridant compete most effectively. The role I am applying to sits squarely in this seam: hands-on, client-facing, business-translation-required.
